Martha Gallo

Martha was born in 1961 in Colombia, South America. In 1980 She emigrated to the United States. After she moved to New York City in 1986, she began her studies at The New York Art Students League. This was a dream come true and the awakening of her passion for making art.  In 1992, she opened her own business, in Manhattan, developing a line of one of a kind, hand painted frames uniquely tailored to each artwork specializing in works on paper. Using museum quality techniques, she framed works by such 20th century masters as Picasso, Matisse, Dubuffet, Diego Rivera, Hundertwasser and others. In 1997 she took private classes with Elke Solomon, artist and educator. Later on, in 2010, Tanja Grunert of Gasser-Grunert Gallery invited Martha to participate in “The Exquisite Corpse” curated by David Salle. Her fellow participants were Eric Fischl, Ross Bleckner and Ralph Gibson among others. Martha now continues to work and live on the Western Slope of Colorado.

How I Work

What I am trying to bring to my painting is a vibration/pulsation that moves and inspires others.

My work does not follow a preconceived plan but rather evolves spontaneously as I immerse myself in the creative process.

Art has no responsibility of expressing anything specific. It is an invention, a creation that cannot be realized by other means.

The pulsation of our existence is what inspires me. Right now, the world is in transition and my work aims to communicate a joyful and positive message. To bring forth this expression to uplift our spirits is essential. I believe we must always keep our torch held high.
